| Title | Aleksei Remizov na Sviatoi zemle |
| Description | Aleksei Remizov never visited the Holy Land, although, as we learn from Vladimir Khazan’s book, his Palestinian and later Israeli friends invited him there on numerous occasions. Given the richness and eccentricity of his imagination, the writer could probably have envisioned such a journey in his creative dreams. This, however, is not what the book is about. Having assembled a large and valuable body of archival material, the author publishes the correspondence of Aleksei Remizov and his wife with the engineer Viktor Zalkind and his wife, who lived in Palestine and Israel, as well as with the lawyer Roza Gintsberg-Osorgina, daughter of the prominent Jewish philosopher Ahad Ha’am and one of the wives of the Russian writer Mikhail Osorgin.
The volume also includes, in Russian translation, the poet and prose writer Dovid Knut’s recollections of Remizov, originally published in the Hebrew-language press after Knut immigrated to Israel in 1949. A substantial part of the book is devoted to previously unpublished Remizov autographs — inscriptions in books presented by the writer, which, through a curious chain of circumstances, eventually found their way into Israeli library and archival collections. |
